The history of Château La Lagune, classified 3rd Grand Cru in 1855, goes back to the 18th century. Over time the estate has had several owners. René Chayoux, President of the Ayala champagne company, bought the estate in 1962. Jean-Jacques Frey is currently president of the Ayala group and, therefore, owner of Château La Lagune. He invested heavily in the estate's modernisation, in particular equipping it with a spectacular 2000 m2 vat. His daughter, Caroline, took over in 2004. This former national-level horsewoman, class prize-winner at the Bordeaux School of Oenology, gave her all to raising the estate to the summit. To do so, she has been advised by her old professor, the renowned Denis Dubourdieu. On arriving at the estate, she immediately decided to create the Mademoiselle L vintage, to extend the range of lighter wines with finesse and femininity. The 80 Ha vineyard, of which 60 are sole-tenanted, flourishes over various outcrops of Mindelian gravel, typical of Haut-Médoc.
