Archives place the birth of this sumptuous estate in the 16th century. It was then the property of the Guiraud family. The descendants of the family, the Dejeans, inherited it. It was part of the huge Grand-Puy estate that extends over Pauillac, which also established Château Lynch-Bages. In 1750 Pierre Ducasse, lawyer to the family and himself passionate about wine, bought part of the vineyard. Then, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste passed into the hands of Frédéric Lacoste and, in 1855, won the title Médoc Cinquième Grand Cru Classé. In 1920, Frederic's beneficiaries sold the estate to the Hériveau and Neal families. It then changed hands several times. Since 2004, it has been owned by Crédit Agricole. The 40 Ha vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel soil of sand-gravel and clay. It is next to Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild and Pontet-Canet.

    Tasting notes

L'Héritier de Grand Puy Ducasse is the estate's second wine and, like the Prélude à Grand Puy Ducasse, comes from the vineyard's young vines. The complex, tasty nose opens on aromas of blackcurrant, delicately joined by herbs, cedar and spicy notes of grey pepper. It is complex and dynamic on the palate, with a great tannic structure and lovely mineral freshness. The finish ends on elegant nuances that are both fruity and minty.
