The old steward of Château Margaux and Château Latour, Pierre Rauzan, established his own estate in 1661. In 1692 he had almost 40 Ha of vines, of which 25 were at Margaux under the name Rauzan. In 1763, this vineyard was split into two estates: Château Rauzan-Gassies and Château Rauzan-Ségla. The two estates were to be classified as Médoc Deuxième Grand Crus in 1855. Four owners would succeed to the head of the business. Paul Quié, wine trader, was to take it over in 1946 and, then, transmit it to his son. Today the 3rd generation of the Quié family, Jean-Philippe and Anne-Françoise, have taken up the torch. The estate produces a second wine called Chevalier de Rauzan-Gassies.

    Tasting notes

The nose, intense and subtle , opens with aromas of red and black fruit like blueberry and redcurrant, mixed with delicate smoked and roasted notes, lifted by the slightly woody perfumes of the undergrowth. It is both strong and harmonious on the palate. Soft, fine-grained tannins give a dense, solid texture. The finish is long, spicy and slightly woody.
