In the 17th century, Château Simard and Château Haut-Simard were one, being the property of the Comte de Simard. They were separated in 1870 when a railway was built in the middle. The two estates were taken over by Claude Mazière in 1954. He was one of the rare producers who allowed their wine to mature in the cellar until they were at their best, sometimes more than ten years, before selling them. In 2008, he bequeathed Château Simard to his nephew Alain Vauthier and his daughter, Pauline, famous owners of the mythical Château Ausone. The same year, it was awarded the appellation Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The 40 Ha vineyard, the best part of Merlot, extends over clay-limestone lands with a subsoil of ancient sand. It is at the south of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary.

    Tasting notes

A delicate and delicious nose opens with aromas of black fruit and wild berries, completed by lovely floral notes of violet and spicy touches of liquorice. It is dense and elegant on the palate. The silky, supple texture is sprinkled with fine-grained tannins. A pure minerality gives it plenty of freshness at the finish.
