The majestic estate dates from 1670, and is one of the five Premier Grands Crus classified in Médoc in 1855. At that time, Jacques de Ségur called it Château Lafite and already placed it amongst the loveliest properties in the region. Over the centuries it passed from owner to owner, until it was taken over by Baron James de Rothschild in 1868. He re-named it Château Lafite Rothschild. This purchase came 15 years after the acquisition of Mouton Rothschild by his nephew, Nathaniel. Since 1975, Éric de Rothschild has been the lucky owner of the estate, a global icon. 112 ha with south-west exposure on fine gravel and sand soils, to the north-west of Pauillac. The estate also produces "Les Carruades de Lafitte" as a second wine.

    Tasting notes

This splendid wine opens with a delicate bouquet. Little by little, blackcurrant and cedar aromas subtly blend with notes of pencil lead and mild spices. Full and sophisticated on the palate, it has a rich texture and overall finesse. The mastered freshness and fine-grained tannins make this wine a very classy example of balance.
