Black pepper cultivation was introduced to the Bahia region of Brazil in the 17th century. It wasn’t until the 1930s that pepper started to be grown seriously and then exported to Europe and North America. Today, the three main harvesting areas are Pará, Bahia and Espiritu Santo. Harvests last from July to October.
